The Phil-Harmonic Podcast Episode 9

Hello all,

We’re racing on into summer now, even if the sun is having reservations about following us there. That said, it’s apparently been the driest spring for a century here in the UK. Thankfully, this week’s mix is positively wet with creative juices – as sordid as that sounds.

I decided that I was going to mix this episode without burning any fresh CDs especially for it, giving me a chance to use up some big tunes from this year that were yet to make an appearance. We also pick up the pace a lot quicker than usual, getting into those driving tempos well before the hour mark.

Our progressive openings include alternative remixes of, for my money, the best two vocal tracks of the year so far. You Belong To Me and Broken Down are both unleashed for the second time on this podcast, this time in their DJ Feel and Ronski Speed guises respectively. Dennis Sheperd’s new release on Enhanced Progressive joins them and absolutely shines.

But we’re full to the brim with uplifting material this time out – including Ukraine’s Vol Deeman with Magnetica, Matt Skyer’s epic new remix of Sunny Lax’s Always, Venezuela’s Manuel Rocca serves up White Clouds and there’s a trans-Atlantic collaboration between London’s Sophie Sugar and New Jersey’s Tom Colontonio.

Far more oldies in there for you this week. There’s a fantastic vocal trance track from early last year featuring the talents of Emma Hewitt, the ominous piano riff of tech trance tune Vergatron and Sophie Sugar’s Sense Of Connection – which now means that 3 out of 4 of Sophie’s massive trancers from 2007 have appeared in this podcast at some point or another.

And of course, the big news in trance music this week has been the release of Above & Beyond’s second studio album, Group Therapy, which ends a long 6 year wait for a follow up to the masterful Tri-State. Vocalist Richard Bedford features heavily on the album and the wider public have got to hear his voice in the shape of Radio One playlisted singles Sun & Moon and Thing Called Love. I’ve already tipped my metaphorical hat to the album’s pending release by playing both singles, but to close off this mix I’ve dropped the original A&B-Richard Bedford collaboration – Alone Tonight. The Ronski Speed remix is my pick of the many versions that were released in 2006.
