THAT WAS 2014 – PART 2

As I've done for the last 3 incarnations of That Was, and for the final time, here are my personal 'awards' for the year just gone: Best DJs, labels, moments and sets of 2014.

There is a mini techno chart this year. It has taken me a good long while to warm to this genre properly but, towards the end of 2014, I finally unearthed a style of techno that truly gets me going. I will be playing a lot more tracks like the 3 mentioned in 2015.

The house chart also shows a clear movement away from the aggressive EDM sounds, which have gone from sounding refreshing to genuinely flat, grating and annoying. My appreciation for slower BPMs and more subtle arrangements has naturally developed as I've got older so the fact that deeper, hipster sounds have drawn me in is completely unsurprising.

Also, my final ever 'One To Watch' you may not have heard of yet and if you haven't, remember you read his name here first. Already being played by the likes of Angry Man and Jordan Suckley, he's going to be huge.
