The Phil-Harmonic Podcast Episode 53

TPHP rolls on and hopefully people are getting used to the more regular weekly format. But enough about the format; it's old news and we're all about forward thinking here.

An unusual episode this week in the sense that it draws on a number of artists and labels that are relative unknowns in more mainstream trance circles. The likes of Spin Twist, Future Focus and Sedna Recordings are not your Armada's and Anjuna's of the trance world. Great tracks here nevertheless.

Bar the opening couple of tracks, and probably our closing two as well, I've gone for quite a dark, at times aggressive, feel while still keeping the tempo quite steady. In all honesty, while not being my 'Tune Of The Episode',  Aerofoil's nasty new release, WoW!, really got me going and really forms the basis for this set's overall tone and direction.

Some sunnier vibes do open things up courtesy of Ad Brown's From Within, one of the early tracks in my recent set at Transcend's bank holiday special, and Super8 & Tab's Anjuna Volume 10 offering, L.A., a huge highlight from their set at Ministry Of Sound last weekend.

Watch out for a very cheeky bit of psytrance, something that is being reintroduced into the more mainstream scene at the moment via the likes of Simon Patterson, Bryan Kearney and Jordan Suckley. Klopfgeister is another name from Hamburg's absolutely thriving progressive psy scene and I finally got around to listen to his 2012 album, Smiles & More, a few weeks ago. Clearly one of the best electronic albums from last year.

Our Harmonic oldie this week was a hard one to pick. After the demonic rhythms of WoW! and the ominous piano of Face Value, I felt we needed to end on a more positive note. And positivity comes flowing courtesy of Grrreat's huge drop and relentlessly sunny melodic combinations. Another brilliant record from 2009 and one that really chases away those crap British weather blues. More of that sunshine to come on The Phil-Harmonic Podcast I can promise.

Only blot on the copybook this week is the very very brief moment when you can actually hear my printer disconnecting from the computer. Why I thought it would be a good idea to turn my printer off mid-recording I really don't know. Thank you Windows!
